00. Project Description:
Implicit Field is a three-dimensional surface parametrized through the aggregation of mathematical functions in MathCAD. The goal of the project is two-fold. The first is exploring a salient feature of Implicit Field, discontinuities, as a crucial means of deriving structural and internal layout patterns. The second is building a fabrication method, a three-dimensional butterfly joinery system, that not only functions to connect plates but also augments a reading of the Implicit Field's gradient. The final model consists of 393 three-dimensional butterfly joints and 218 plates that can be completely dissembled and reconstructed.
